On a positive note..

Hi all I'm feeling great at the moment! I've got my flare back and I'm feeling good again. Last night was Pridwin night and we went wild for the local band ( well it is our most exciting night of of the week) but as overnight camp ends next week, many of the staff will be leaving so itwas the   last chance to do something different  :).
Martina, Judy and I have sorted out our trip to New York now so there's plenty to look forward to !! Also I have been working hard in the gym and really looking at the positives around me. The weather is getting sooo hot and humid it is so roasting in the kitchen. We got some evaluations back from the chef today and mine was really positive and nice , it's put me in a great mood and I'm glad I am doing well.
This next month I am probably going to sweat my whole body weight because it's so hot.
Love you all

Today was such a great day off !!

Today was my day off and I went to Greenport to meet Jas and Manj (Mum and Dads friends) who are visiting New York City and got the coach to Long Island to visit me !! It was such a beautiful sunny day and we went for dinner on the Marina and looked out on the beautiful views. I had fish and chips ( it was so tasty!!). Later on we had a walk around Greenport town and had icecream ( I had orange sherbert flavour yum!). Mum also sent me a goody bag with things such as clothes and Marmite! It's late here so I'm going to bed. Night y'all.

Homesick!

The homesickness has really kicked in this past week and I have been feeling quite sad. Had some good chats with Mum and Dad on facetime but it's not the same as being at home. I really miss Uni friends and Friends from home too, a night out would be perfect right now :) . I have been here for 6 weeks nearly and I have 4 weeks working at camp left... how crazy is that I am over half way and this is the saddest I have felt so I must be doing well. The weather hasn't been great either though which might have something to do with it. The staff trip on Saturday was to Montauk which is in Suffolk County in East Hampton (Which is the side of the Hamptons where the mega rich people live). Just driving there was a luxury and we saw some of the most amazing cars ! The thing that let the trip down was the weather which was overcast... considering it was a trip to the beach it wasn't ideal. We ended up going into some shops and doing a bit of tourist shopping. I love that guy in the second picture totally photobombing!!

Backtracking abit... on Thursday one of the staff Gabby (She is lovely!) organised a pamper night for some girl campers and invited some of the staff. We had lemon and honey face scrubs and danced around to disney music it was hilarious and refreshing :)

I have made some amazing friends here and it seems like the end is coming far too quickly! The kitchen staff Dana, Anna, Martina and Judy are like my sisters and I also love the lifeguards to bits as well. We have created our own little family here it's great. Even the Head Chef Chris is so lovely and a big softy... he bought me a toaster in from his house because I was missing having toast in the mornings so much, how sweet is that! Our directors Gina and Leah are also understanding and easy to talk to if you have any problems (they are in the picture below).

Going to bed now but i will write again soon.

Feeling fabulous

These last few days have been hectic but we've had lots of fun. Aaron (one of our chefs) is off with strep at the moment so we have all been working hard to accommodate for a loss in the kitchen ! Aaron is the blonde one on the right.. And we love him to bits so hope he gets better soon!! On Tuesday Judy, Martina and I visited the beach for a swim and sunbathe, it was so beautiful and one of the days with better weather as it has been really overcast :( Wednesday as usual was a Pridwin night however we made it special with all the kitchen girls dressing up in LBD's (little black dresses) and having a good ole dance to all the country music because it was country night. Yesterday I got to cook a lentil curry as the vegetarian dish for the campers which was very exciting and an achievement for me. There were many compliments about it so hopefully I can Cook it again! Will try and post sooner next time :)

Busy busy busy

These past few days have been busy but I will start with Wednesday and catch you all up from there. On Wednesday and Thursday Judy was unable to work in the kitchen due to contracting ' strep' so the kitchen staff had to take on extra work to cover all corners. Just to give you an idea, there are 6 kitchen staff and 2 chefs on throughout the day and we prepare, cook and clean up for about 250 children and staff per meal! It's a very monotonous job that involves teamwork and good time management but it's fun and everyone generally works well together. Wednesday night was my third trip to 'Pridwin' , the most exciting part of the week where I had a good dance with some of the other staff on camp as the other kitchen staff didn't feel like going. It was a good night and I enjoyed mixing with the other staff members who i don't get to hang out with much. Thursday generally went : work, gym, sleep so it was fairly uneventful. However on Friday the some of the kitchen crew and lifeguards went shopping to 'Tanger Outlets' again because we are unable to go on the staff trip today due to a retreat this weekend that we have to cook for. I managed to buy loads of stuff that I don't really need but I definitely needed shopping therapy so it was guilt free. After shopping we visited Walmart which is amazingly huge and cheap and like the tourist I am I had to get a picture outside it...
The retreat that's come this weekend is called 'adventure camp' and it's a preparation weekend for the adventure camp staff who will be running a week of activities in August for cancer survivors. They are lovely people and also seem abit crazy ( they even bought their own DJ with them). Although it's been hectic at camp I still feel so relaxed and calm. Camp Qunipet has something so peaceful about it !

The day I met Dr Desire..

Today I visited Dr Desire... But I'll talk more about that later.
It was my day off so I slept in till 11.00am which is mega late for a day at camp !! It's also my rest day for the gym so a total chill out for me. But of course it was raining oh yay ..
Anyway back to Dr Desire.. Judy my fellow kitchen crew member and roommate has had a very sore throat the past few days so the nurse sent us on a little road trip to the Dr's! Of course Shelter island being a tiny island there was only one surgery  and of course it was owned by 'Dr Desire' ( I was crying with laughter for about an hour!!). After discovering she had strep we went to the 'drug store' got some antibiotics and headed back to camp. This evening we (the kitchen crew) did tie dye with the art Director Jay (she's lovely we've become good friends) and I will post pictures of the final pieces tomorrow. At the moment I am just watching a thunder and lightening storm from the porch and it's absolutely mad I have never seen anything like it :)
Speak tomorrow

Shelter island day

Yesterday was shelter island day and we went to greenport and shopped till we dropped! It was fabulous and I had the most delicious cappuccino (I miss coffee so much!). There was about half an hour of fireworks at 9.30pm which we watched from the docks which were sooo good. I made 'smores' for the first time the other night and I personally thought they were gross (never having them again) it was a good experience though and I wanted to do it at least one time while I am here. Mega tired so going to bed. I miss you all !! Especially my family and best friends <3 homesickness is kicking in.

P.s I've included a picture of the camp cat 'teddy' who likes to visit our cabin on a daily basis and chill (love him so much!!)

Pridwin time

Hi all !! Not been up to a whole lot lately just been bonding with the other staff :) Last night we went to the only night out on the whole island which is at a Hotel called Pridwin. There was a country band there so the staff really got into the spirit with a bit of square dancing and a lot of yeeeehaaas ! Today was a very busy day in the kitchen it was non stop! Still gyming it and feeling fitter day by day. Its's 'shelter island day' on Saturday and there are rumours that famous people are coming (so excited!!!) ...I feel so much happier and relaxed here it's such a carefree existence. Will speak soon.

Officially allowed to work in the USA !!

Hi everyone , yesterday was a boring day just work and sleep so their was nothing much to say! However today was fabulous as we (the rest of the European people) went to get our social security cards so we can legally work and get paid. It was only a half an hour wait (we were expecting 4hrs) so Greg ( the camp director) took us out for lunch then we went to a massive department store 'target'. I finally had a chance to talk to the other English people and found out that one is even at Uni in Birmingham :). I'm really enjoying getting to know the staff as everyone is friendly. Just a quick update... catch you later.

P.s didn't really take many pictures so here's one of me sitting on a Giraffe in the staff lounge...

Happy 4th of July weekend !!

Hey there everyone it's 4th of July weekend here in the USofA and loads of fun stuff has been happening ! Yesterday we had a hint of 'hurricane Arthur' ; the thunderstorms were awful and it was too wet to have fireworks or a bonfire :( however today was a blast! The kitchen crew went to a water park 'splish splash'  in Riverhead for around 5 hrs... then because we had our own car we took a detour on the way back to camp and went shopping for a few hours. Everything was sooo cheap.. Reebok had buy one pair get one free on trainers so of course I now have two pairs plus two pairs of boots from this other outlet (yes I know I sound like a shopaholic but everything is sooo cheap here!!). I also managed to find a Clarks some of you will be proud to know but I didn't buy anything (lots of self restraint there). The drive back was about an hour long with lots of fireworks the whole way because every town had their 4th of July parades today instead of yesterday. Just been an amazing day off overall. I am truely having the best time of my life with the loveliest people. Happy 4th of July weekend everyone.
